I Want To Be the Antithesis of Adam Fucking Neumann
As a female founder, I’ve been struggling to reconcile az16’s decision to ignore Adam Neumann’s unethical business practices and instead write him their largest investment check to date.
This investment decision was a reminder to female and BIPOC founders that we will continue to be left behind. This is why we need to create the change for ourselves. We can’t rely on the establishment to do it for us.
And the first step in creating change is talking more openly about the struggles.
We can’t create positive change until we truly understand the immense obstacles that overlooked founders have to overcome to be successful. This is why I wrote my book, This Better Work: A Female Founder’s (Wild) Journey Through the (Hyper-Masculine) Tech Startup World.
Sharing my story was the first step. Next was action.
As the numbers illustrate, traditional VC clearly doesn’t support everyone, which is why I decided to launch my startup studio, Better Work Ventures. Our Pittsburgh-based startup studio works with overlooked founders to build community-driven tech companies.
As I mentioned above, we can’t create change until we start talking openly — and telling real stories — about the people who aren’t Adam Neumann. And I'm always happy to share mine.
Until next time,
✌️Lynsie
